Émelie Fichter
I am a professional pianist and a great wine enthusiast. I take immense pleasure in pairing music with wine: I compare the sensations in wine tasting with specific musical nuances and tempo. The mouthfeel invites associates with a specific musical feel. For instance a light, lively and festive music will be perfect with a Champagne while a very expressive and suave melody will pair with a sweet wine. But nothing beats concrete examples to better understand so good to my Instagram page @the_wine_pianist for surprising musical tastings! Which Champagne would You treat your parents or in-laws?
‘My parents are epicureans who love beautiful labels and good food. I would therefore choose an old vintage to surprise them and do honor to my mother’s cooking. I had the opportunity to taste a fabulous Dom Ruinart 1993 during a day spent at the estate and loved its complexity.’
Which Champagne would You treat your lover?
‘Without hesitation, a powerful and virile Blanc de Noirs, complex like him! For example Bollinger’s PN TX17.’
Which Champagne would You treat your boss?
‘I would choose a Dom Pérignon for my boss to impress him and make him want to keep me !’
Which Champagne would You treat yourself?
‘Selosse has been on my wishlist for a long time and I really admire their work. I dream of treating myself with some of their single vintages! And I would also seize the opportunity to take my lover on a gastronomic weekend in their Hotel-Restaurant “Les Avisés”.‘
Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?
‘Frédéric Chopin is my favorite composer. I would gladly taste the Celebris Blanc de Blancs extra brut from Gosset. It is a brillant Champagne of infinite elegance, just like this composer whom I admire so much.’
[ what piece of music would you listen to drinking wine with Your dream guest ?]
‘La Flûte enchantée, simply because it is a masterpiece by Mozart, a composer that I absolutely adore just like Chopin who also admired him. It is a luminous and vibrant work that corresponds well to the image of Champagne, voluble and elegant.‘
