Which Champagne would You treat your parents or in-laws?
‘Neither my father or mother are big Champagne drinkers, so it probably has to be something easy to drink and very approachable. With that said I wouldn’t pour them something banal. It has to be very good, it should push them to increase their Champagne consumption. ‘Blanc de Millénaires’ 1995 from Charles Heidsieck should do the job.’
Which Champagne would You treat your lover?
‘My wife is a big fan of ‘Comtes de Champagne’ so it would be a bottle of the 1995. A vintage that I prefer over the 1996. So much more elegant and complex than the 96ers. Just like my dear wife.‘
Which Champagne would You treat your boss?
‘Well, both Adam and Albin are keen wine drinkers and wouldn’t refuse a decent glass of Champagne. Both the boys have good palates, so it has to be on a very good level. I would pour 2008 ‘Comtesse Marie de France’ from Paul Bara. I adore the wine.‘
Which Champagne would You treat yourself?
‘I would go back to a wine that I tried a few years ago. I remember when I had the 1973 Dom Pérignon with Richard Geoffroy at Hautvillers. That was before ‘P2’ and ‘P3’ were hitting the market. That bottle took me to that special place that only a very good bottle can take you to.‘
Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?
‘The guest would be the whole of Depeche Mode.even if some of the guy’s don’t drink any more. I would like to hear them commenting on every single piece they did. It would have to be something very elegant, very precise, still something that could strike a chord with complex personalities as these guys. Diebolt Vallois ‘Fleur de Passion’, first vintage, 1995 of course.‘
What piece of music would you listen to drinking wine in question 5 ?
‘All the albums from Depeche Mode, in release order. By doing so, giving me an even greater understanding of an amazing band and their development over a 40 year period. If Anton Corbijn would drop by, he could stay as well, (as long as he has the DM portfolio with him). Giving us a virtual frame of the evening. Btw, the bottle has to be big.’
