Jesper is also an author of children’s books, he has published 23 novels (no wine in them though).
Which Champagne would You treat your parents?
‘My dad doesn’t drink any alcohol – except champagne. So, I’d love to bring a 1969 Krug ‘Collection’, a very good vintage, the year I was born. My mum would love it too, I’m sure. If I had to pay for it myself, I would go for a 2006 Krug ‘Vintage’. Great balance of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier. ‘
Which Champagne would You treat your lover?
‘Love and music goes together, so I’d bring Dom Pérignon Lenny Kravitz Edition, designed by the rockstar himself. It’s a 2008 Dom Vintage.’
Which Champagne would You treat your boss?
‘The owner of the publishing house of Plaza is a James Bond fan just like me, so I’d bring a Bollinger Tradition R.D. since that is was Octopussy (Maud Adams) drinks in the first 007 movie I saw in a theatre, Octopussy (1983). The vintage she is drinking is not shown in the movie. I wrote a big feature on champagne and 007 in the wine magazine Vin&Bar last year, I’m so looking forward to the new movie.’
Which Champagne would You treat yourself?
Salon! Any vintage, but hey, let’s go for 1996! Great year in champagne, and music (Different Class, by Pulp came that year.)
Which Champagne would You treat a dream guest, and why?
‘I have – briefly – interviewed the movie director and wine maker Mr Francis Ford Coppola. However, I’d love a long dinner with the maestro talking film and sparkling wine. I like his sparkling named after his daughter, Sofia, it’s a blanc de blanc. So I’d choose a blanc de blanc, for example Ruinart, a really price-worthy quality champagne. For the musical entertainment I’d ask Bryan Ferry to join and sing his classic standard, You go to my head, with lines such as ‘you spin around my brain / like the bubbles in a glass of champagne.’
