Almost ten years ago, I sat as usual with a devoted private tasting group around the dinner table with a lot of goodies in front of us. We had done as we used to. We had started with some simple young unknown champagnes and slowly increased the quality to disappear in a couple of crescendo bottles in speechless magic. We therefore worked with a conscious dramaturgy where it was as uncertain as in a football match who would score the goal and when.

I love that excitement and the possibility of being surprised. But another very special close friend was of a very different opinion. He lives by the motto ‘Quality in every moment’ and only felt that the simple wines constituted an unnecessary transport distance towards the perfection of enjoyment. He sat depressed and speechless until it clicked and became big. Then he started in the most excited way you can imagine. He pounded his fist on the table, rolled his eyes, and recited poems and hymns in honor of wine. Seeing his unique ability to fully enjoy all the life-affirming values opened up to him through wine made us all happy in an almost religious way.
