Picture of Björnstierne Antonsson

Björnstierne Antonsson

You may have heard the term grower champagne. It’s an expression that you come across more and more often and a growing trend as new generations take over the vineyards. But what exactly is it and what is the opposite?

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

In Champagne, the terms Récoltant-Manipulant (RM) and Négociant-Manipulant (NM) are used, which can also be read on the bottle. RM means that the grower makes the champagne himself from his own grapes, while NM means that it is a champagne house that bought most of the grapes from growers to make the champagne. In addition, there are also various forms of cooperatives.
