l’Assiette Champenoise ***

The three star L’Assiette Champenoise is undeniably one of the world’s best restaurants of all categories and I love the whole place with all my heart. Still, there is one thing that bothers me when I sit down for the first time and write a column about my favorite oasis in Champagne.

L'Assiette Champenoise ***

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

I feel way too at home. I have simply been here too many times and know every detail too well to get the big kick of the first time experience. Who can forget their first kiss or their first glass of champagne? I have exactly the same problem with Sweden’s best restaurant Frantzén ***. When such a large part of the show is based on surprises as it does at three-star restaurants, you can not get the same sensational experience at the sixth visit as at the first.

For example, how many people would like to see their favorite performance of Shakespeare in the Royal Albert Hall 25 times how dizzying the premiere was? I choose that number because there are so many times I have eaten at L’Assiette Champenoise. I also calculated that I probably spent about 200 hotel nights here so it’s no wonder I became good friends with the whole Lallement family and next door to every waiter and receptionist in this oasis outside Reims.
